King's Clown
I watched this movie today. It was called 'King's clown'. It's a Korean movie that DBSK did a parody of before their Banju Dramas. The whole story revolves around two actors in ancient Korea where there are still kings and such. The two actors, after running away, find themselves in Seoul. After a series of events they end up performing for the very mentally unstable King and become his personal minstrels. The plot moves on and shows that because of their performances, the King is able to find those who were corrupt in his kingdom. But the King also falls in love with one of the actors--the one that looks too much like a girl. From this point on, it's about the actors trying to keep themselves alive and the sacrifices they have to make in order to do so. Very touching. Would have started crying if it weren't for all the bloodshed. I know it wasn't aiming for it, but if there ever was a good BL movie, that was so it. It was...wow. It's the first time I've actually watched a Korean anything all the way through in a long time. Most of Korean stuff is too dramatic and the whole 'I'm going to look in your eyes for five minutes' or 'We're going to miss each other by a centimeter all the time' thing really gets on my nerves. But for once, this lacked it. It had a good amount of drama, but not over the top. The random killing as well as the random humor made it worth watching. The BL was kind of what was propelling the whole plot, but it didn't seem like it at all. I think even guys could watch this without getting too squeamish. I'm sure they'll probably squirm more at the many mentions of eunuchs than the BL. I recommend it to even those who don't like BL or Korean dramas.
